  • A crocodile can move on land at a speed of up to 17 kms an hour.
  • Their swimming speed is up to 40 kms an hour.
  • They have the strongest bite of any animal in the world.
  • The muscles that open their jaws, however, are not powerful, so a strong person could hold a crocodile's mouth closed.
  • Crocodiles can live for a long time without food.
  • Some crocodiles can weigh over 1,200 kgs.
  • The average age of a crocodile is 50-60 years, but some live up to 100 years.

Did you know? Alligators.

Crocodiles and alligators belong to the same family and are very similar, but there are some differences:

  • Alligators are less aggressive than crocodiles.
  • Alligators have shorter, wider heads.
  • Almost all alligators live in fresh water, while some species of crocodiles live in salt water.
  • Alligators are found in the wild only in the USA and China, while crocodiles can be found all over the world.
